Our Steps Towards Environmental Leadership

Our mission at Aveda is to care for the world we live in, from the products we make to the ways in which we give back to society.

At Aveda, we strive to set an example for environmental leadership and responsibility, not just in the world of beauty, but around the world.

Aveda was founded in 1978 by world-class hairstylist Horst Rechelbacher, with the vision to provide beauty professionals with botanical products that would be good for them, their guests, and the Earth. The name “Aveda” comes from Ayurveda, the traditional Hindu system of holistic wellness based on balance between body, mind and soul.

As a beauty and wellness brand, Aveda represents an opportunity to create positive change, starting with the products we use on our hair and skin and how those products are made. Rechelbacher believed that “even the simplest, seemingly insignificant choices we make in our daily lives—what to eat, what to wear, what to use on our bodies and in our homes—have a ripple effect that reaches far beyond us personally.”

Aveda products are cruelty-free and 100% vegan. They are non-toxic and created with pure botanical ingredients that deliver powerful and proven results. Aveda uses sustainable and environmentally responsible production and packaging practices.

You will see Ayurvedic influences throughout your Aveda salon or spa experience, in the Aveda Rituals that will relax and transport you, including:

We live our mission through our use of 100% post-consumer recycled material in our packaging, 100% wind-generated power in our manufacturing.

Aveda has also donated millions of dollars over the years to organizations funding breast cancer research, disaster relief, animal rescue and other causes.
